You will need the following:
1. A computer
2. A microphone which can connect to your computer
3. Software to record & edit sound
4. A hosting service

There are a number of options when it comes to recording and editing.
On the Mac platform the latest versions of Garageband have support for podcasting built in. If it is an older version it is available for a small fee as part of the iLife package.
On the Windows platform you have a few options available to you to download for free and Audacity is usually a great option and is available at: Audacity

Both these programs will allow you to record and edit and many of the most popular podcasters use them. If you want to use music in your podcasts be aware of the legal issues surrounding music rights – it is a good idea to opt for unsigned bands who have given you signed permission or common rights-free music which you can find at Podshow.com

Once you have recorded and edited your file you need to export it to mp3 format.

Upload it to where you are hosting it and you are set to go! You can now place your podcast in your blog or your website and submit your podcast url into the directories including podcastingireland.ie and iTunes.
